Description
The Pikemaniac is the ideal tail for the discerning pike angler, an updated version of the legendary Big Mama series. This tail excels at casting bulky, heavy flies at long distances, thanks to a 12-foot head extended by a 4-foot Handling Zone. The Handling Zone is a thicker section of running line located immediately behind the head, making it easier to control the tail in the air and increasing its resistance to wear.
The Pikemaniac’s profile is a reverse compound taper with a short, powerful front taper that is ideal for cutting wind and handling large flies. The slick, flexible coating keeps the tail memory-free even at low temperatures, ensuring consistent performance. The low-elasticity core allows for better sensing of bites and accurate hook planting, as well as more effective transfer of casting energy than traditional cores. Pre-fabricated loops make leader and backing attachment easy, while the weight and density of the tail are printed behind the front loop for instant recognition.
The sinking versions of the Pikemaniac take advantage of the Sliding Density™ concept, in which the density gradually increases to the tip of the tail, improving contact with the fly and reducing the “sagging” effect of the tail as it sinks. With the exception of the SloMo version, which is completely slow intermediate density, the density given in the description refers to the running line and the back of the head, from which the density gradually increases toward the tip. For example, a Fast Inter to Sink 3 tail will have a running line and the back of the head at fast intermediate density, gradually increasing to a Sink 3 tip. This design ensures a more uniform sink, maintaining direct contact with the fly even while descending.
